China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation's special gas expansion production of tungsten hexafluoride will increase to 3000 tons per year

Industry News
Recently, in response to the sustained demand for electronic specialty gases in the semiconductor manufacturing field, CSSC Special Gas is advancing its capacity expansion plan. According to the information disclosed by the company, its "annual production of 3383 tons of high-purity hydrogen sulfide and other electronic gas construction project" is being implemented in an orderly manner, including the addition of 1000 tons/year of tungsten hexafluoride production capacity, which is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2027. At that time, the total production capacity of tungsten hexafluoride in the company will increase from the current 2000 tons/year to 3000 tons/year.

In the chemical new materials industry chain, tungsten hexafluoride plays a crucial role as an important electronic specialty gas in the semiconductor chip manufacturing process. With the explosive demand for advanced process logic chips and AI chips, as well as the continuous iteration of storage technologies such as 3D NAND and HBM, the market demand for this material is showing a growing trend. Industry insiders point out that the rapid development of downstream application fields has brought development opportunities for related enterprises.
From the perspective of capacity utilization, the existing 2000 tons/year tungsten hexafluoride capacity utilization rate of CSSC Special Gas remains at a high level. Faced with the rapid growth of downstream orders, the existing production capacity is no longer able to fully meet market demand, providing a realistic foundation for capacity expansion.
From the perspective of market pattern analysis, the global tungsten hexafluoride market is currently in a tight equilibrium state. On the one hand, the supply of high-purity tungsten powder from overseas is restricted, and overseas manufacturers face constraints in expanding production; On the other hand, domestic wafer fabs continue to expand production, creating vast opportunities for import substitution. China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) stated that through this capacity expansion, the company will enhance its ability to undertake downstream customer orders and seize the opportunity of global chip capacity transfer.
It is understood that the total investment of the electronic gas project is about 870 million yuan. In addition to tungsten hexafluoride, the project also includes multiple electronic specialty gas products such as high-purity hydrogen sulfide, which will further enrich the company's high-purity electronic gas product matrix to meet the expanding global demand for semiconductor materials.
The company also reminds that the construction progress and production time of the project may be affected by multiple factors such as engineering construction and equipment delivery. The specific progress shall be subject to the company's subsequent official announcement.
